A deep part of me aches. It’s not the pulse of my boredom that craves entertainment, nor the idleness of my hands. But something deeper, something older than me. It’s the part of me that knows I am a creature, not one cursed to forever crawl or slither on the ground. But I am a creature, a creature of the earth. I am born of dirt and earth and air. “Okay, love. See you soon.” The man put down the corded phone and spoke to my husband in his Cuban accent. “He’s on his way back. It took him so long because you told him it was a full kit, not just the pump.” Jesse put out his hands in earnest supplication. “I’m so sorry. I got confused.” “Yeah yeah. It’s no problem. 28 things I’ve learned in 28 years
1) People will tell you all sorts of ways you should live your life. Eventually you have to decide for yourself and OWN IT. The sooner the better. Embrace your brand of weird. What was once odd in high school, people now will applaud you for doing. 2) Pettiness is a waste of time and energy. You’re probably going be petty sometimes anyway, but remember your energy is limited. Remember your time is finite. 3) Be fiercely kind. Not doormat kind. 4) You can have everything.
